Is there really anything new to learn about Anne Boleyn? Plus, a brand new tour to be announced this Wednesday!
26th May 2024 History Travel Newsletter
Hello Fellow History Lover!
You may have noticed that although the weekly podcast has continued I have not sent out a written history travel newsletter for a few weeks and there is good reason for that…I was travelling! Not just any old travel but leading The Anne Boleyn Tours, one which ran from 30th April - 4th May and the second from 16th May - 20th May.
This week:
Is there really anything new to learn about Anne Boleyn?!

Is there really anything new to learn about Anne Boleyn?!
You could be forgiven for thinking I must now, after running the tour 6 times, have heard it all about Anne Boleyn but yet again, I have learned new things from our incredible tour speakers.
Kate McCaffrey spoke on both of the tours and gave fascinating insights into the networks and friendships Anne Boleyn had at court and beyond, all revealed through Kate’s ongoing research into Anne’s Book of Hours. Professor James Clark, in his talk ‘Anne’s Religion and Henry’s Reformation’ told us that she came from a line of progressive thinkers when it came to religion and could equally have been influenced by her Boleyn relatives as her time in France. Tracy Borman spoke to our May group about how Anne’s daughter Elizabeth was demonstrably unashamed of her mother. Gareth Russell dispelled the myth that Anne Boleyn had a rags to riches story revealing Anne’s decent from the extremely wealthy and powerful Irish Butler family. In a second talk Gareth went through the many theories on Anne’s downfall in 1536. His thought provoking analysis was a lesson in critical thinking, always asking more questions and learning to change one’s mind!
All of these talks are, or will be, available in my Patreon over the summer. You can join my Patreon for just £5/month by clicking here.
New Tour Announcement
Coming this Wednesday
This Wednesday I shall be revealing a brand new tour for 2025! On my ‘Tea Time History Chat Live’ show on Youtube and Facebook I will reveal the itinerary. Don’t worry if you can’t make the livestream, the show will remain there available to catch up and will also be available on the podcast within 2 hours.
Although I will wait until Wednesday to reveal the itinerary, I can tell you that it is a 9-day tour which will explore Lincoln, York and London! As usual I will look after you every step of the way from booking and throughout the tour itself. The pick up and drop off point will be in London, so no need to worry about how to get to other parts of the country. It will be a nice and convenient start after which you can relax back on our luxury coach and forget having to make any arrangements for the next 9 days! I have secured beautiful accommodation and dinner will be provided every night.
You can also be rest assured that you are dealing with a bonafide travel company. History Holidays Limited, of which ‘British History Tours’ is our trading name, is a member of the Travel Trust Association, which guarantees that we are fully compliant in law with The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018. Even if you don’t travel with me, please ask your tour company how they are meeting their requirement under law as there are many companies out there who are sadly disregarding their need to do this. Without this protection your money is not safe should a company go out of business.
If you have been following The Anne Boleyn Tours on our Instagram and Facebook pages and are thinking you’d love to be there yourself, then I am very happy to tell you that it is available twice in 2025. This may be the last year we run this tour for a while so please avoid disappointment by booking for 2025.

You can also catch me on History After Dark on Wednesday at 8:15pm when me, Dr Kat and Catherine Ibbotson will be discussing Isambard Kingdom Brunel (and beginning with is that is his real name!).
Wishing you a fantastic week!
