Our new Royal Scotland tour is a luxury, fully escorted tour devoted to the richness, drama, and majesty of Scotland’s royal history. For which, we’ll be joined by best- selling historian Gareth Russell, biographer of two of Scotland’s most famous royals - James VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
Our group will meet in Edinburgh, a city rich in history. Using the five-star Caledonian Hotel as our base, we’ll trace the story of Scotland’s royal past from the Bruces to the Windsors.
Along with visiting the ancient crowning site of Scotland’s kings at Scone Palace, we’ll explore Stirling Castle, where James VI was hidden as a child. Now one of the most magnificently restored castles in the British Isles, at Stirling, we’ll see the splendid Great Hall, the private rooms of Mary, Queen of Scots’ parents, statues of Robert the Bruce, and the William Wallace Memorial.
We’ll have expert-guided tours of the palaces of the Scottish kings, queens, and nobles. These include Margaret Tudor’s beloved home at Dunfermline, Mary, Queen of Scots’ birthplace at Linlithgow, Falkland Palace - where James VI escaped his kidnappers, Edinburgh Castle, where he was born, and the royal family’s official residence in Scotland - Holyroodhouse - where David Riccio was murdered and Bonnie Prince Charlie held court.
Speaking of Bonnie Prince Charlie, we will explore Culross, where much of “Outlander” was filmed, because of its preservation of a 17th and 18th-century Scottish town. It’s also the site of a palace, which still shows marks carved into its walls to guard against witchcraft.
We’ll have a tour the Queen Mother’s childhood home at Glamis, which is said to be the most haunted private home in Britain, and see St. Giles’s, the cathedral where Elizabeth II’s body rested during the first stage of her state funeral in 2022.
Our tour ends with a private champagne reception onboard the Royal Family’s former private yacht, “Britannia.”
