Why Henry VIII is buried with Jane Seymour
Anne Boleyn tour release date. Dr Suzie Edge gives us the gory details of a Traitor's death and the bad side of Elizabeth I
Hello fellow history lover!
Hello if you’re new to my newsletter and thank you for subscribing. Each Wednesday you will receive a notification that my weekly live history chat show is available to listen to, and each Sunday I will write to you with history, and news of tours and events.
This week:
Why is Henry VIII buried with Jane Seymour? The logical explanation.
The anniversary of the execution of Mary, Queen of Scots
A spotlight on Sir Francis Bacon, the man who taught us to think….and freeze chicken (he died trying that)!
You can listen to me talk about all of the above topics on the latest episode of ‘Tea Time History Chat Live’ - click here to watch on Youtube.
On History After Dark this week we discussed Elizabeth I (and on the anniversary of Mary, Queen of Scots’ execution) - see the link to that episode at the end of this newsletter.
In 2023 ONLY:
2024 - The Anne Boleyn Tour. 16 - 20 May 2024:
Gareth Russell is confirmed as Tour Historian
Tracy Borman is confirmed as a Speaker
Tickets go on sale this week!
Before we get onto this week’s stories, I have been asked about whether certain tours are repeated. Other than ‘The Anne Boleyn Tour, each May I don’t usually repeat tours. With a limited number of tours per year, in a country with a huge number of history topics to cover and places to visit, and a rebooking rate of 25%, I am always looking for new tours for guests to enjoy. This means that tours are not usually repeated in consecutive years.
25% Rebooking Rate! What does that mean?
I am so proud of this! 25% of the guests on a tour this year came last year and decided to come back straight away. In fact, for 5 guests it will be their 3rd or 4th tour with me in 5 seasons.
Tours for 2023 only
The Anne Boleyn Tour in May is the only tour we repeat! So, if you like the look of either of the other two tours, take a close look at the tour pages.
It is less than 100 days to go until our sell-out ‘The Anne Boleyn Tour,’ in May. We are sold out this year but you can follow the tour on social media by following British History Tours on Instagram. As always, Instagram paying subscribers and members of my Patreon will also get behind-the-scenes content.

Getting gory with Dr Suzie Edge
I had immense fun speaking with Dr Suzie Edge, author of a new book called ‘Mortal Monarchs’ which look at the deaths of Englands Kings and Queens from William I to George VI. Suzie is a medical doctor turned historian and her insight into how we have treated human bodies throughout history is fascinating. I took the chance to ask those questions that I was almost afraid to ask! Watch the trailer below or click here to watch the full interview.
